Area Plans: Build Accountability Into the Process

J. Blake Lanier, from the Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services, will present a step-by-step approach to manage a AAA network with a focus on goals, outcomes, and accountability. The state collaborates closely with its AAAs on Area Plans to build synergy, trust and results. You will learn how to:

• Adopt tools and methods to build a great working relationship with your AAAs.
• Apply quality management principles to generate continuous improvement.
• Establish an outcomes-based approach to programming and allocations.

Federal regulations place great responsibility on the State Unit on Aging (SUA) to develop effective policies, manage the area plan process for each AAA, and determine how to evaluate the effectiveness of the programs. You’re also required to conduct risk assessment, sub-recipient monitoring, and establish data system requirements.
